Devotional Inklings...
Finding Truth Matters offers an exciting range of apologetic material that challenges hearts and minds.
"THE LAST WISHES OF AN EXECUTED APOSTLE"
Peter, the chief apostle of Christ, was brutally executed by Caesar Nero, the first century tyrannical dictator, widely regarded by most Bible scholars to be the "Beast" referred to in the first part of Revelation 13. Before he died, he wrote to Christians urging them to live fully-devoted-to-Christ lives. In case people were uncertain how this looked, he specifically listed (with a bluntness that perhaps only the way a man who knows he was about to die can state) the things that genuine Christians should do. Consider one of his lists found in 1Peter 4:7-14.
As Christians we should-
(i) Realise that time is precious and not to be wasted (4:7)
(ii) Be self-controlled (don't always give in to yourself) (4:7)
(iii) Be "sober-minded" (guided by truth and reality) (4:7)
(iv) Be prayerful (4:7)
(v) Above all, be caring and forgiving (4:8)
(vi) Show hospitality gladly (4:9)
(vii) Use your gifts to serve each other (4:10)
(viii) Serve God passionately (4:11)
(ix) Glorify God in everything (4:11)
(x) Accept life's trials as tests of your faith (4:12)
(xi) Rejoice when under pressure (4:13)
(xii) Accept insults for the sake of Christ (so that the Spirit of Glory & Power and God will rest on you) (4:14)For more of these lists, read First and Second Peter. Dying men don't tend to waste words. They also tend to get straight to the point. So if you're looking for someone who will tell it like it is, read First and Second Peter!
